Meditation is the most powerful way to connect with your true, inner self. It can be as refreshing as several hours of sleep and as rejuvenating as a long weekend away from the stress and hectic lifestyles that many of us are living.
The best time for meditation is between the hours of 3 and 6 in the morning. This is considered the time of peace and calm in the world. If you are unable to meditate during these hours make every attempt to find some time either early in the morning or late at night to have a quiet time for yourself.
When you first begin the practice of meditating find a place where you will not be disturbed for at least thirty minutes. Set an alarm clock if you absolutely must be somewhere at a specific time after that. It is not uncommon for people to fall asleep during a relaxing meditation. In the beginning do not use any music. This is so you can get used to the practice of meditating without thinking about any outside noise.
The purpose of meditation is to bring your thoughts and focus inward, away from any outside influence. Sit in a relaxed position, sitting in a chair or on the bed or floor. Cross your legs if this is a comfortable position for you. Refrain from lying down as this may induce sleep. You will benefit from staying awake more than from falling asleep during this time.
Close your eyes gently and begin to let the outside world drift away from your focus. Your thoughts will tend to dominate your mind so you will need to push them away. Tell yourself that all of the outside world will be waiting for you when you open your eyes and that you deserve this time to think about absolutely nothing.
It will take many periods of meditation before you see dramatic results. This will become a time you look forward to because so many great ideas will come into your consciousness during your meditation sessions. It is not unusual for people to experience a light, floating feeling and feel as though they have had several hours of sleep when they open their eyes.
After about two weeks of regular meditating add some background music to your sessions if you like. There are many recordings readily available, or you may have a favorite piece of music that you would like to use. Whatever piece of music you choose it should be light and have a gentle rolling feel.
Meditation is the single best activity you can add to your daily life experience. You may feel younger, happier, and more rested after only a few weeks of practice.
